I am getting this tattoo prior to my departure to Oklahoma.

This is a passage that we worked on in one of my classes this semester. I have been captivated by it since we exegesis it. It is Deuteronomy 6:4-5. I am going to permanently bind it on my left arm near my heart, as according to the surrounding verses. The Star of David may go on the top of the scripture.

Why this and why the Star of David. The verses, I strive daily to love the Lord with all my heart, mind, and will. I believe in one God in three persons (heart, mind, strength). I am also choosing to wear this symbol as a protest against those that segregate and exclude others due to who they are. The Star of David was used to distinguish Jews during the Holocaust. I will wear it in solidarity with all those that are oppressed and persecuted in this world. I want to offer my life in service to those that cannot speak or their voice is taken from them. There was also something about this symbol being the union of the male and female.
