With our 5th round pick we had to address the serious weakness of our Open & Affirming, Spirit-Lead, Multi-Cultural, dynamic, intergenerational, social justice based faith community. Our communities leadership is taking shape very nicely. We are pleased with the folks we have drafted thus far. We got a strong team ready to go and love the Jesus outta folks.
We are missing an important part, evangelism. We flirted with the idea of drafting the greatest evangelist this side of an addiction to honey & locust by taking Billy Graham. We were very tempted by this idea. When we contacted Billy’s agent we were told that there were other plans in Billy’s future and that contract negotiations may be long and drawn out due to prior commitments.
We dig deep in to the night and discovered an even better candidate. With our 5th round selection we draft Dorothy Day to be our Associate Pastor for Evangelism. We hope Dorothy brings her socialistic predisposition with her as she leads our faith community in to the margins and empowers them with the love of God and the responsibility to the Other.
Dorothy will also oversee our social media team as we seek to reach the margins of the virtual world and draw all in to service of each other. With Dorothy at the helm of our evangelism ship we are setting sail to be the love of Christ to all as we fight for justice as Dorothy says,
“I have long since come to believe that people never mean half of what they say, and that it is best to disregard their talk and judge only their actions. For our salvation depends upon the poor! You can deliver food for the body but it is not enough. There must be food for the soul. The greatest challenge of the day is: how to bring about a revolution of the heart, a revolution which has to start with each one of us?”
We are very excited to have the chance to draft Dorothy. We were getting nervous that she may not be available at this time. God is surely smiling upon us today!
