We open the 6th round in the 2010 Ecclisiastical Draft with a man that many have not known. This pick was instrumental in the Civil Rights Movement and was advisor to MLK on non-violent action. If there was oppression, marginalization or violence our pick was there to lend his voice. He gave all he had to bring about the Kingdom of God here and now.
With the 1st pick of the 6th round of this years draft we select, Bayard Rustin. Bayard is an obvious choice as we seek to form and shape our Open & Affirming, Spirit-Lead, Multi-Cultural, dynamic, intergenerational, social justice based faith community.
Bayard is called to be our Associate Pastor for Community Organizing. Upon receiving the call of his selection in this years draft Bayard said,
“I am excited to walk with this faith community. I will do my best to organize and unite the People of God in common work to fight oppression and protest the injustice in this nation. When an individual is protesting society’s refusal to acknowledge his dignity as a human being, his very act of protest confers dignity on him. It is this dignity that I can drawn towards as a man of God. It is this dignity that our Divine Creator has called all of creation towards. It is my honor to be a voice in this choir. We must be courageous and unafraid as we know that the truth of God is justice and to be afraid is to behave as if the truth were not true.”
Bayard brings to us an amazing amount of excitement and boundless energy. His wisdom and organizing will bless the community at-large.
