If you could invite 6 people to a dinner party, who you have no real chance of dinning with, who would they be? Also this dinner party would be potluck style [in classic Presbyterian style] and each guest would bring something along.
The person has to either be a) dead, or b) alive, but no way you’ll ever have a chance to have dinner with them [real people only. no fictional characters]. It is not 6 individual dinners; rather it is a dinner party with 6 people (not including you). Imagine the possibilities! There are no language barriers, due to the amazing technology available in this scenario language or lack of language presents no difficulty. May sure to include the dish each guest would bring.
My dinner guests would be [in no particular order]:
My Paternal Grandparents [she would bring her delicious apple pie and he would BBQ the pork ribs and veggies]. I would love to talk to them as an adult. I hope grandpa’s ribs are as good as I have always heard. He was a card and very funny, so he would be great entertainment.
Henri Nouwen [he would bring the potato salad], I love his books. I would love to pick his brain on many issues. I also want to thank him for illustrating God’s love to me in a meaningful and insightful way.
Phyllis Byrd-Ochilo [she would bring her famous pumpkin stuff] I want her to know how much she blessed me in my journey to answer this call on my life. I still remember the card and candy bar [chocolate came at a premium in Kenya] that she gave me when I found out I was accepted into Austin Seminary. It read, “God believes in you, and so do I! Love, Phyllis”. Those words bore a hole directly into my heart and have never left.
Johnny and June Cash [Johnny would bring the corn bread and June brings the green bean casserole] They would play some music at a sing a long at dessert. I want to share with them what their music has meant to me.
I would hope that the rules would allow for Mere to be there. I would love for her to met my grandparents and she would be pissed if I got to hear Johnny Cash and she did not.
